Barack Obama is the gift that keeps giving — to Donald Trump and the GOP.
Yesterday the former president — who left four Americans for dead in Benghazi then blamed a video — officially inserted himself into the midterm race tweeting endorsements of 81 Democratic candidates.
“I’m confident that, together, they’ll strengthen this country we love by restoring opportunity that’s broadly shared, repairing our alliances and standing in the world, and upholding our fundamental commitment to justice, fairness, responsibility and the rule of law,” Obama announced.
Perhaps the former White House occupant is inhaling more than cigarettes these days if he thinks any voter is buying the line that Democrats are upholding a “commitment to justice” — when it was his administration that destroyed public trust in our government institutions by weaponizing the IRS and U.S. Justice Department to target political opponents.
Americans know it was the Obama administration that perverted the rule of law by allowing the FBI to use opposition research funded by the Hillary Clinton campaign and the DNC — propaganda compiled by Russian informants and a discredited ex-British spy — as a tool to get deceptive FISA warrants to spy on the Trump campaign. A miscarriage of justice that paved the twisted path to the still-ongoing special counsel investigation that seeks to oust President Trump from office.
A swamp of corruption — at the highest echelons of our government — that makes Watergate look like child’s play.
And voters know it was Obama’s Democratic administration that committed consumer fraud when it fraudulently promised the American people, “If you like your health care plan and your doctor you can keep it” while knowing full well that millions would lose their plans.
Perhaps Obama is hoping voters have short memories and forgotten he oversaw the slowest economic recovery since the Great Depression while destroying our health care system and adding $9 trillion to the national debt.
And when it comes to foreign policy, it was his administration that allowed ISIS to rage, Syrian butcher Bashar al-Assad to commit genocide and Russia to annex Crimea. Obama also spearheaded the failed Iran nuclear deal, and did nothing while North Korea rapidly advanced its nuclear arsenal and China ripped us off in trade.
Republicans won’t lose any sleep over Obama’s support for Democratic midterm candidates. In fact, they are probably wishing Hillary Clinton would jump in with her own loud endorsements as well.
