Democrats demanding witnesses, including testimony from fired National Security Adviser John Bolton, in the Senate phase of the impeachment trial deserve no such accommodation.
For starters, it’s the House’s responsibility to conduct a thorough investigation — not the U.S. Senate — so if serial liar Adam Schiff, D-Calif., Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., and co. wanted Bolton’s testimony, or anyone else’s for that matter, they shouldn’t have rushed the House impeachment hearings like they did for political purposes.
To the contrary, House Democrats should’ve allowed the courts to decide if Bolton’s testimony is shielded under executive privilege or not and then proceed accordingly. But that didn’t happen. Instead, Democrats insisted they had “overwhelming evidence” against the president and voted to impeach him.
Clearly they lied or they wouldn’t be seeking additional witnesses, testimony or documents to prove their case.
What these partisan liars are doing is engaging in — yet another — fishing expedition on the taxpayers’ dime because they don’t want to let you, the voter, decide who gets to be president.
In any event, it’s simply not the Republicans job in the Senate to do Democrats work for them — that they failed to do — because a former staffer with an ax to grind against the president is now trying to juice sales for his tell-all book.
What’s raising red flags for many is why Bolton waited so long to come forward with allegations involving President Trump’s July 2019 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, something the president questioned in a tweet storm Wednesday.
“Why didn’t John Bolton complain about this ‘nonsense’ a long time ago, when he was very publicly terminated. He said, not that it matters, NOTHING!” Trump tweeted.
“For a guy who couldn’t get approved for the Ambassador to the U.N. years ago, couldn’t get approved for anything since, ‘begged’ me for a non Senate approved job, which I gave him despite many saying “Don’t do it, sir,” takes the job, mistakenly says “Libyan Model” on T.V., and many more mistakes of judgement, gets fired because frankly, if I listened to him, we would be in World War Six by now, and goes out and IMMEDIATELY writes a nasty & untrue book. All Classified National Security. Who would do this?” the president tweeted.
Regardless of the bad blood between Trump and Bolton, Democrats don’t get a “do-over” in the Senate, especially given the fact that Democrats blocked Republican lawmakers from calling any witnesses during its rigged House impeachment hearings. The Democrats also blocked GOP lawmakers from accessing important testimony from the Intelligence Inspector General concerning the whistleblower and other material information while also denying the president any semblance of due process.
And now they have the audacity to demand “fairness” and additional witnesses when they conducted the most unfair and rigged impeachment process in American history?
You’ve got to be kidding.
Senators on both sides of the aisle should end this stain on our nation once and for all.
