Climate deal with China waste of time

For President Obama, it’s all about “optics” — what looks good is more important than what is good.

But the policies of this master of political spin are hurting our economy and killing jobs.

Look no further than the climate deal the president has struck with China that is being called “historic” by his public relations cheerleading team.

In this lopsided deal, Obama made a commitment to China — the world’s biggest polluter — that the U.S. will aggressively cut carbon emissions 26 to 28 percent by 2025, as compared with 2005 levels. Meanwhile, China is allowed to pollute — at will — until “around” 2030 in a nonbinding agreement.

How does this make sense for the U.S. economy, jobs, or even the global environment?

“This so-called ‘historic’ breakthrough is simply buying China time. China has the world’s largest economy and it is not going to forfeit that title to address the country’s carbon emissions. China accounts for 50 percent of global consumption of coal and it has no other inexpensive energy resources, such as natural gas.

“If anything, China is probably glad that America has agreed to shackle its own economy with costly climate regulations that are only going move the needle by 0.018 degrees Celsius by 2100,” said U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), in a statement to the Herald.

Here’s the reality: China builds and opens a new coal plant every eight to 10 days, according to the Energy Information Administration, while Democrats and the EPA are systematically destroying the U.S. coal industry — and all the jobs that go with it.

While China continues to grow its economy and benefit from cheap energy, many Massachusetts residents are going to see their electricity rates skyrocket 37 percent this year.

“I was particularly distressed by the deal he’s apparently reached with the Chinese … which requires the Chinese to do nothing at all for 16 years while these carbon regulations are creating havoc in my state and other states around the country,” said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.)

Which makes one wonder, how is Obama’s climate charade generating an ounce of praise — from anyone?

And let’s not forget the biggest elephant in the room — the Earth hasn’t warmed in decades and, in fact, we’re in a global warming “pause.”

Our government should be implementing policies that reduce our astronomical $18 trillion debt and create jobs for the 92 million Americans out of work.

Climate policy that benefits China while hurting America is not the way to do that.
