President Obama has misled the American people. He promised that if you liked your doctor and health plan, you could keep them. To date, 5 million Americans have received policy cancellations. Many in the middle class are being forced into new plans at a much higher cost.
Wait a sec! Didn’t President Obama and our own U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren campaign on the platform they were the party that protects the middle class? Weren’t they the ones who lambasted the GOP for pushing government policies that “hammered” the middle class?
Well my question for voters is, who’s getting hammered now?
It’s the middle class.
They didn’t get to opt out of Obamacare. Many got cancellation notices that will force them to pay more for a new plan for services they don’t want. Others will end up paying more for their existing plans.
But wait, now Obama is “instructing” insurers to give Americans their old plans back, temporarily, for a year.
We won’t hold our breath.
The president promised premiums would go down by $2,500 for a family of four. According to Forbes, many families’ premiums will be going up by $7,500.
Obamacare also hammers middle-class jobs. Many businesses are laying off workers so they can get under the 50-employee threshold to avoid providing expensive government-mandated health care coverage. Companies with fewer than 50 employees aren’t rushing to hire new workers due to the added insurance costs.
The Affordable Care Act is also hurting those working union jobs or getting paid hourly wages. Given that businesses must now provide coverage to employees working 30 hours a week, many Americans are being cut from 40 hours to 29 or fewer.
Teamsters President James Hoffa warned last summer in a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, which ran in the Wall Street Journal, “The ACA will shatter not only our hard-earned health benefits, but destroy the foundation of the 40-hour work week that is the backbone of the American middle class.” That warning seems to be coming true.
Bottom line: Democrats are not the party of the middle class. They traffic in phony promises to get people to donate to their campaigns and vote for them.
Anyone notice Liz Warren’s silence on the Obamacare fallout? It’s deafening.
Voters will take note in the 2014 and 2016 election cycles.
