Presumption of innocence out the window

Democrats — hell bent on removing President Trump from office by any means necessary — are moving forward with impeachment stemming from a July phone call the president had with Ukraine’s leader Volodymyr Zelenskiy — before they gather the facts or evidence.

Illustrating how wildly partisan and illegitimate it all is.

At a late afternoon press conference Tuesday, Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced her party is launching an official impeachment inquiry against the president. This is prior to Democrats interviewing the whistleblower or reviewing his/her complaint filed with the Inspector General. This is before they’ve seen the transcript of the phone call between the two world leaders to review what was actually said during the call. Nor have they interviewed Ukraine officials who’ve stated publicly there was no wrongdoing committed by the president.

In a Ukrainian TV interview on Saturday, Ukraine Prime Minister Vadym Prystaiko denied that Trump relentlessly pressured Zelenskiy to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden.

“I know what the conversation was about, and I think there was no pressure,” Prystaiko said. “There was talk, conversations are different, leaders have the right to discuss any problems that exist. This conversation was long, friendly, and it touched on many questions, sometimes requiring serious answers.”

So the new precedent the Democratic Party is setting — for all future administrations — is that it’s OK to launch impeachment proceedings before getting the facts. So much for the presumption of innocence.

Now, thanks to reckless liberals at the highest echelons of our government, all that’s required to try to undo a presidential election is speculation and hearsay given we’ve now learned the whistleblower has “no direct knowledge” of the phone call.

On Tuesday Trump tweeted, “I am currently at the United Nations representing our Country, but have authorized the release tomorrow of the complete, fully declassified and unredacted transcript of my phone conversation with President Zelensky of Ukraine. You will see it was a very friendly and totally appropriate call. No pressure and, unlike Joe Biden and his son, NO quid pro quo! This is nothing more than a continuation of the Greatest and most Destructive Witch Hunt of all time!”

Correct. Democrats today convict political foes first — then ask questions second.

They’re taking a sledgehammer to the notion of “equal justice” as they say Trump’s alleged actions seeking help from a foreign nation to target a political opponent is a criminal act, while turning a blind eye to the DNC and Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign paying Russians millions for opposition research they used against the Trump cam- paign and current administration.

Double standard? Clearly.

With Trump’s latest approval numbers at 53%, no doubt impeachment efforts by the left will backfire spectacularly come 2020.

Just you wait and see.
