Trump’s tough talk on trade is working

President Trump is putting China on notice, they need to come to the negotiating table willing to make meaningful concessions on trade — not kick the can down the road.

“For 10 months, China has been paying Tariffs to the USA of 25% on 50 Billion Dollars of High Tech, and 10% on 200 Billion Dollars of other goods. These payments are partially responsible for our great economic results,” said Trump on Twitter.

His comments came Sunday in the lead up to the Wednesday arrival of a delegation of Chinese officials to Washington for tariff talks.

Trump warned, “The 10% will go up to 25% on Friday. 325 Billions Dollars of additional goods sent to us by China remain untaxed, but will be shortly, at a rate of 25%…. The Trade Deal with China continues, but too slowly, as they attempt to renegotiate. No!”

Americans should applaud President Trump for having the guts to take on China and finally address its fleecing of U.S. intellectual property, the massive trade imbalance and other lopsided deals hurting American businesses and the U.S. economy.

Of course, whenever the president takes bold action on an issue Democrats pull the proverbial “emergency brake” and tell us it won’t work.

Take the historic GOP tax cuts. Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told us in 2017 it would be “Armageddon.” Then the tax cuts put money back in working families wallets and America got a raise as hourly wages have now hit 10-year highs. A new CNN poll just released showed the majority of Americans, 56%, approve of Trump’s handling of the economy.

Then there is Trump’s tough talk on North Korea. Facing a grave nuclear threat his first year in office, he warned, “Rocket Man” Kim Jong Un he better stop threatening the U.S. or face the “fire and fury” of the U.S. military. Democrats accused our commander in chief of provoking World War III. Then what happened? Kim Jong Un stopped launching ICBM’s last year and came to the negotiating table.

Then there’s the so-called financial “experts” like liberal economist Paul Krugman and others who told us if Trump got elected his policies would trigger a debilitating global recession.

Today, the economy is soaring with the GDP reaching 4% last year — something the left said could never happen. Americans are enjoying historically low unemployment at 3.6%. There’s more jobs available than people to fill them, including manufacturing jobs Obama said were never coming back again.

Bottom line: When the left says Trump can’t do something bet on the house — the White House. Trump proves naysayers wrong time and time again.
